New York-New Jersey November box volume up 3.3pc to 500,608 TEU
THE Port of New York and New Jersey on the US east coast handled 500,608 TEU in November, representing a 3.3 per cent year-on-year increase.
Imports increased four per cent to 249,112 TEU while exports fell 3.7 per cent to 116,983 TEU. Export empties were up 10 per cent to 132,923 TEU, reported IHS Media.
Through the first 11 months of 2015, the New York-New Jersey port's volume totalled 5,972,495 TEU. Laden imports increased 10 per cent to 2,962,536 TEU against the previous year. Loaded exports were down 2.2 per cent to 1,281,821 TEU. Export empties surged 27.7 per cent to 1,608,251 TEU.
The port authority's ExpressRail system set a record for the month of November, handling 41,194 cargo containers. During the month 44,175 automobiles were handled, up 55.3 per cent year on year.
