Danes check out business deals in Iran, Maersk in talks, MSC makes move
DANISH companies are checking out energy and shipping projects in Iran during a visit this week by Denmark's foreign minister, Reuters reports.
The Danish Foreign Minister Kristian Jensen went Tehran with a delegation representing 58 companies on Monday and said that exports could increase by US$72 million once sanctions are lifted.
Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said Danish companies were interested in developing oil fields in the Caspian Sea including the South Pars gas field, which also produces condensates, reported Shana news agency.
Maersk Oil declined to give details of any talks it had with Iranian officials and Maersk Line, the world's biggest container line, would only say:
"We can confirm that we have met with representatives from the Iranian government to discuss possible projects. Nothing has been agreed and we cannot share details."
But Maersk Line's 2M alliance partner, the Italian-Swiss Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), the world's second biggest container shipping company, has already set up a weekly service.
This started with the arrival of the Panamanian-flagged, 9,400-TEU MSC Domitille that left Shanghai with 1,162 TEU for Iran and docked at Shahid Rajaee port New Year's Eve.
Mehr news agency also said Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) as saying that Maersk Line, would begin services to Iranian ports.
