Emirates flies parts for new bridge in Uganda from Tokyo via Dubai
DEPLOYING a Boeing 777 freighter, UAE-based Emirates SkyCargo has airlifted an 84-tonne load of heavy machinery and steel parts for a new bridge being constructed across the River Nile in Uganda.
A Japanese construction company appointed the airline to fly the equipment from Tokyo's Narita Airport to Entebbe via the cargo carrier's hub in Dubai.
The bridge, located at Jinja near the source of the Nile, is expected to improve transport flows on the Northern Corridor route, which links Uganda and Burundi, Rwanda and eastern Congo to Kenya, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Said Emirates vice president Ravishankar Mirle: "Our field teams in Japan and Uganda along with our Dubai-based Freighter and Charters and hub operations teams worked very hard to ensure the success of this charter."
