Deliveries in 2016 increase Emirates cargo capacity despite retirements
DUBAI's Emirates is to retire 26 aircraft next year, followed by 13 more in 2017 and another 13 will be retired in 2018.
But the fleet will still grow in 2016 as it is due to take delivery of 36 new aircraft, comprising 20 A380s and 16 Boeing 777-300ERs.
The airline's cargo carrying capacity will increase next year by 2,332 cubic metres as 6,906 cubic metres of potential cargo carrying capacity will be joining its fleet, while 4,574 cubic metres will be removed through the retirement of aircraft, reported London's Aircargonews.
"At the end of 2016, the aircraft retirements and new deliveries will put Emirates' average fleet age at 5.6 years, dramatically younger than the global average," Emirates said.
The total number of aircraft in its fleet currently stands at 244.
