UTi opens multimodal hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City
UTi Worldwide, a US-based freight forwarder, has established new multimodal hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to consolidate shipments from short-haul air and road-feeder services to take advantage of excess short-haul air capacity in the region.
From these new hubs, the company is launching three new long-haul routes for cargo movements to European and American gateways.
Two of the new routes will move consolidated cargo from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand to its hubs in Frankfurt and Amsterdam, destined for locations in Europe.
The third route will fly consolidated air freight from Vietnam and Cambodia to its Chicago and Atlanta gateways, reported Atlanta area Air Cargo World.
Managing director for Singapore and Malaysia, Mudasar Mohamed, said: "Business in the ASEAN region continues to grow, while air cargo capacity from the area has remained static, resulting in an overflow of export cargo causing delays for clients, especially during peak seasons.
"In order to tackle these challenges, UTi Worldwide in southeast Asia has been looking to develop new routes and multimodal freight options to create seamless movement for our clients' shipments," he said.
