Lion City's aviation community raises US$176,000 for charity

SINGAPORE's 4th biennial Aviation Run attracted some 4,700 members of the aviation community and their families from over 100 organisations which raised SGD250,000 (US$176,000).

Spearheaded by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS), the Aviation Run is a key event under Aviation Community Cares, which brings the aviation community together to contribute to society in meaningful ways throughout the year. The money raised is for the Community Chest, which supports some 80 charities.

Director-General of the CAAS Kevin Shum said; "It is a privilege to be part of a community that cares for and supports those who are less fortunate. The aviation community has come together to raise more than S$1 million for the Community Chest over the last six years. CAAS is honoured to be able to help play a part for this worthwhile effort by the aviation community."

Receiving the donation on behalf of Community Chest, honorary treasurer of Community Chest, Robert Chew said: "CAAS has been raising funds for Community Chest since 2009 and we are very thankful for their unwavering support to our beneficiaries. They have been a great leader in bringing together members of the aviation community to share their successes with those in need and to help the less fortunate realise their fullest potential."

Managing director Airbus Group Singapore Pte Ltd, Ivan Ho, said: "We are extremely pleased to be able to support the Aviation Run organised by CAAS. This event really benefits society through the great work of the various charities sponsored by the Community Chest and we are happy to be able to contribute to this cause."
