Frankfurt airport's January-September cargo volume contracts by 2.4pc
GERMANY's Frankfurt airport recorded a 2.4 per cent decline in cargo traffic during the first nine months of the year at 1.56 million tonnes against the same period last year, mainly due to "the overall weak global trade environment and a slowdown in emerging economies."
However, group revenue from January to September was up 9.4 per cent year on year to EUR1.96 billion (US$2.11 billion). The improvement was chiefly driven by strong passenger traffic, as well as positive retail development, reported Air Cargo News.
Fraport's executive board chairman, Stefan Schulte, was quoted as saying: "With the trend of the first half continuing in the third quarter, both our traffic and key financial figures have developed positively in the year to date.
"Consequently, we have revised our outlook upwards for the entire 2015 business year."
