JAL's H1 earnings soar 28.7pc in spite of weak air freight revenue
JAPAN Airlines' net profit from April to September jumped 28.7 per cent to JPY103.4 billion (US$854 million) compared to the same period a year earlier despite revenue from cargo operations sliding 0.9 per cent year on year to JPY40.7 billion.
Lower fuel prices and cost-reduction efforts offset the decrease in revenue from cargo operations, reported Journal of Commerce.
Revenue from international cargo operations amounted to JPY28.9 billion, up 0.6 per cent year on year, while revenue from domestic cargo business decreased by 4.4 per cent to JPY11.7 billion.
In the first half of fiscal 2015, JAL's group revenue from overall operations, including passenger operations, came to JPY687.9 billion, representing an increase of 0.6 per cent against the corresponding six-month period of 2014.
The carrier said that by "efficiently capturing transit shipments" it managed to increase revenue from international cargo operations despite softer demand for cargo transportation between Japan and foreign countries.
