MSC Oscar makes maiden call at Le Harve
THE world largest containership in terms of loading capacity, MSC Oscar, made its maiden call at the French port of Le Havre on October 18 during her round trip between Asia and Europe.
As the first one of a series of 20 giant container vessels of more than 19,000 TEU ordered by the Swiss shipowner Mediterranean Shipping Company, the MSC Oscar is currently deployed on the "Albatross" Asia-Europe service.
The service directly links the Asian ports of Dalian, Busan, Qingdao, Ningbo, Shanghai, Xiamen, Yantian, Tanjung Pelepas to the port of Le Havre - the first port of call on the north-European range.
The behemoth vessel, capable of accommodating 19,224 TEU, or a cargo volume equivalent to 163 million bottles of wine or 2.4 million microwave ovens, docked at TNMSC Terminal of Port 2000 in Le Harve.
