UASC adds latest 18,800-TEU ship to its fleet
UNITED Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has held an event in Hamburg, Germany to celebrate the delivery of the 18,800-TEU MV Al Muraykh, one of the world's most environmentally friendly mega ships.
The shipping line hosted the event on-board the ship with its banking partners, to acknowledge the financing partners who have collectively contributed to backing the carrier's newbuilding programme, comprising eleven 15,000-TEU vessels and six 18,800-TEU ships, reported Arabian Supply Chain.com.
The event was attended by members of UASC's board of directors and executive management, as well as 60 representatives from leading banks and financial institutions from around the world. Guests were taken on a guided tour of MV Al Muraykh, while on its maiden voyage in North Europe.
"In a capital intensive industry like container shipping, it is critical to invest in the most efficient assets to keep pace with market growth and maintain competitive unit costs," chief financial officer of UASC, Basil Al-Zaid, was quoted as saying.
"With our trusted partners, UASC has achieved a series of milestones including our current newbuilding programme, considered one of the industry's largest and most technologically advanced," he added.
