APL to commence Yokohama-Saipan-Guam service for shippers on US mainland
APL, the container shipping arm of Singapore's NOL, is gearing up to launch a new fortnightly US-flagged service to Guam and Saipan, branded the Guam Saipan Express (GSX).
The service connects with the carrier's weekly Eagle Express service (EX1) in Yokohama, offering shippers in Guam and Saipan an alternative route from the US mainland.
About three-quarters of Guam's inbound freight originates from the US mainland.
A dedicated APL vessel of 1,100 TEU will service the route. The port rotation of GSX is: Yokohama, Saipan, Guam, and Yokohama. The first sailing of the new service is expected to depart from Yokohama on November 24.
APL president Kenneth Glenn said in a company release: "The GSX service will also provide new opportunities for global shippers to expand their business to Guam and Saipan," as the service will have access to the ocean liner's global port network.
