Complications prompt India to re-tender Mumbai offshore box shop
INDIA is to re-tender the 1.2 million TEU capacity Mumbai Offshore Container Terminal, first awarded to the Indira Container Terminal joint venture of Gammon India (74 per cent) and Spain's Dragados (26 per cent) back in 2007.
Even though the berth has been constructed, the terminal has yet to commence operations as there was no dredging yet by the port or quay cranes from China, reports Rotterdam's Dynaliner.
Gammon will have right of first refusal to match any bid that exceeds its own revenue share of just under 35.1 per cent.
From April to September TEU handled by the 11 Indian major container ports increased two per cent to 4.1 million TEU. Best performer, given its throughput of 310,000 TEU, was Tuticorin, which was up 12 per cent.
Paradip grew 50 per cent and New Mangalore was up 19 per cent did better relatively speaking but from smaller volumes. The country's largest outlet at Nhava Sheva's stayed much the same.
