HKIA cargo volume in September up 1pc putting stop to downward trend
AIR freight volume at Hong Kong International Airport rose slightly by 1 per cent in September by handling a total 368,000 tonnes of cargo compared to the same month last year, reversing a downward trend in recent months.
The relatively modest increase was mainly due to a 3 per cent surge in exports during the month compared to September 2014, according to Air Cargo World.
The regions that experienced the greatest increase in HKIA exports were North America and the Australasian region.
However, imports remained flat and trans-shipments fell by 3 per cent, compared to September last year.
For the first nine months of 2015, HKIA handled 3.2 million tonnes of cargo, representing a slight increase of 0.2 percent over the same period last year.
On a 12-month basis, which includes the rise in cargo from the US West Coast port crisis, cargo volume at HKIA grew by 1.3 per cent year on year at 4.4 million tonnes.
