APM Terminals (APMT) has acquired four ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes and 14 automated rail-mounted gantry cranes (ARMGs) for its Vado terminal on Italy抯 Ligurian coast that is due to open in January, 2018.
The Italian government is providing US$340 million for civil works for the project, with the global terminal operator investing $170 million in the new terminal which will create 450 new jobs when operations commence, reported London's Port Technology.
APMT is expanding into the Italian northwestern Ligurian coast as part of the port抯 master plan to develop new global supply chain access to markets in northern Italy, southern France, Switzerland and Germany.
The new facility will have a capacity of 800,000 TEU and can accomodate 18,000 TEU ships. It will handle both containerised and liquid bulk cargoes and will be integrated operationally with the existing 275,000 annual TEU capacity Vado Reefer Terminal facility that the group acquired in August.

Managing director of APMT, Carlo Merli, said: 揟his crane and container-handling equipment order is a very important milestone in the development of APMT Vado, and the future of the Savona-Vado area.
