US Ex-Im Bank closure puts Boeing orders from Ethiopian Airlines at risk
EITHIOPIAN Airlines told US planemaker Boeing that the shutdown of the US Export-Import Bank has triggered concerns about the airline's ability to take delivery of Boeing jets already ordered.
Given this, the airline would have to re-evaluate future orders, according to a letter Boeing released from Tewolde GebreMariam, the airline's CEO.
Mr GebreMariam said the airline had 21 aircraft on order that had not been delivered with a total list price of over US$2.5 billion.
He told Boeing in a letter that the shutdown of the US trade bank at the end of June had put Boeing "at a competitive disadvantage relative to manufacturers in other countries that continue to support their export credit agencies".
