Ruslan delivers Argentine telecomm satellite to French Guiana

RUSSIA's heavy lift Ruslan International airline has flown a 35,000 kilo Argentine ARSAT-2 communications satellite, from Bariloche, Argentina to Cayenne, French Guiana.

The satellite is owned by the Argentine government's satellite operator, ARSAT and was taken to the Guiana Space Centre, soon to provide telecommunications services, including television, telephone and Internet access across South America.

This comes after Ruslan delivered the ARSAT-1 in 2014 to the same operator, using its fleet of 17 AN124-100 aircraft.

The specific environmental conditions required during the construction and transportation of the satellite gave the load an extra layer of complexity.

The cargo was required to be delivered within a tight deadline to meet the schedule set for preparation and launch, reported American Journal of Transportation.

The loading operation was observed by a number of government officials, as well as top management representatives from ARSAT and INVAP, the Argentine technology manufacturer commissioned to build both ARSAT-1 and ARSAT-2.
