Trans-Pacific Partnership is music to Airforwarders Association
THE Airforwarders Association (AfA), representing 360 companies and 300,000 workers, has welcomed the arrival of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal as it will bring lower tariffs, easier customs clearance and level competitive playing fields.
"Lowering tariffs and streamlining customs border clearance operations are music to our ears as this will spur increased trade both to and from the United States," said AfA president Michelle Halkerston, reported the American Journal of Transportation (AJOT).
"As freight forwarders, we recognise that liberalised trade agreements are critical to business both large and small that seek to expand their markets," said Mr Halkerston, also CEO of Chicago's Hassett Express.
The accord that still requires the approval of the US Senate will cover 40 per cent of the global marketplace and is expected to substantially speed up the flow of goods through supply chains in the world's fastest growing economies.
