Bollore Logistics squares off in Freetown against APMT in Monrovia
BOLLORE Africa Logistics, a unit of Bollore Group outside Paris, will start construction of an expansion of its container terminal in Freetown, Sierra Leone, having signed a contract for co-financing.
This news comes days after Maersk's APM Terminals announced that will invest $34.5 million to double capacity in Monrovia, Liberia, Bollore Africa Logistics mail rival in Central Africa.
The new US$120 million dock will be 270 metres long, have 13 metres alongside and a 35,000-square metre back up yard, increasing annual capacity 750,000 TEU, reports Maritime News Journal of Varna, Bulgaria.
Bollore Africa Logistics has operates the Freetown terminal since 2011 under a 20-year concession with a current capacity of 100,000 TEU.
The expansion of the quay and port is undertaken in response to increasing demand of export/import from the terminals in Sierra Leone following the economic growth of Central Africa.
Bollore Africa forecast growth of trade of Central African countries with China and Europe until 2020.
