Sinokor starts direct calls from South Korea to India from October 2
HONG Kong's Intra-Asia container shipping specialist, Sinokor Maritime, is to inaugurate direct services from South Korea to India from October 2 through slot swaps with Hyundai Merchant Marine's CIX service to Nhava Sheva and Pipavav.
Five 5,000-TEU ships are being deployed to the service with Hyundai contributing three ships while Hong Kong's TS Lines and Zim contributing one each, reports IHS Maritime 360.
The service was started jointly by Hyundai and Heung-A Shipping in 2006, and spanned India and China, but will be expanded to include calls at South Korean ports Gwangyang and Busan.
The port rotation of the enhanced service is Gwangyang, Busan, Shanghai, Ningbo, Singapore, Nhava Sheva (where the Sinokor has opened an agency to explore transhipments in Kolkata), Pipavav, Port Klang, Singapore, Hong Kong and back to Gwangyang.
Sinokor will start shipping cargoes on the ship Northern Priority, as well as looking at the possibility of deploying its own ships to India.
"At this moment, we have no plans to dedicate our ships to India services. But India is an emerging market and we will keep monitoring the situation."
