Hamburg Sud names third 10,600-TEUer for east coast South America loop
GERMAN container line Hamburg Sud christened the 10,600-TEU Cap San Vincent at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering yard in Okpo, South Korea on September 16, reports Rotterdam's World Maritime News.
The Cap San Vincent is the most recent vessel of an identical group of three, with its sister ships Cap San Juan and Cap San Lazaro being delivered to Hamburg Sud earlier this year.
With an overall length of 331 metres and a width of 49.4 metres, these Cap Sanboxships are the largest in the Hamburg Sud fleet.
The new ship is to be phased into the company's Asia-South America east coast Service in late September.
"Although the competition for the carriers in this market is immense, we are convinced that there are further growth opportunities for Hamburg Sud," said company executive board member Arnt Vespermann.
"We shall, therefore, be expanding our liner network in the region and using the port of Busan as a gateway for cargo from and to Korea and as a central hub port," said Dr Vespermann.
