DHL Express to fit Leipzig terminal with automated conveyor belt
DHL Express plans to install an automated conveyor belt for palletised items at its new Leipzig terminal to speed up processing times.
A track system will be able to transport "non-conveyable items" from one end of the terminal to the other.
Leipzig hub managing director Ralph Wondrak said that pallets need to travel one kilometre when they arrive at the terminal, reported UK's Air Cargo News.
Today, these items are loaded onto a pallet to be transported around the hub by forklift.
DHL vice president Roy Hughes said the system will reduce the time it takes for a non-conveyable item to get from offload to re-load from 35 minutes down to 10 minutes.
