Finnair adds passenger aircraft widebody cargo capacity to London links
FINNAIR will add bellyhold cargo capacity to its Helsinki-London Heathrow route from the end of October with a thrice weekly Airbus A340 widebody passenger aircraft.
"Finnair has established a third cargo hub in London to better connect with its Asian network, and to offer improved connections for Finnair customers to North America utilising the network of its partner IAG Cargo," said the airline.
The additional capacity on the Helsinki-London route complements the twice a week A300 freighter service Finnair and IAG Cargo share between Helsinki and London Luton airports, as well its 35 weekly frequencies with the A320 to Heathrow.
The new A340 service will eventually upgrade to an Airbus A350 extra widebody aircraft. Finnair is the first European airline to acquire the A350, with the first aircraft entering the Finnair fleet during the fourth quarter of 2015.
Finnair Cargo will serve the London hub with wide-body aircraft on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays, and with freighter aircraft on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Finnair is the largest Nordic cargo carrier, transporting nearly 150,000 tons of freight and mail annually, with cargo logistics hubs in Helsinki, Brussels and London as well as an extensive GSA network in over 40 countries.
Specialised in air cargo traffic between Europe and Asia, Finnair Cargo connects 13 cities in Asia with more than 60 destinations in Europe and North America.
