Gothenburg port achieves 1.9pc growth in Q2 box traffic, but H1 down 1.6pc
SWEDEN's main port of Gothenburg enjoyed a 1.9 per cent increase in year-on-year second quarter box traffic to 213,000 TEU, but also suffered a 1.6 per cent decline in the first half to 418,000 TEU.
"The container market has been weak for some time but we could see a distinct improvement during the second quarter," said port CEO Magnus Karestedt. "Not a major improvement, but an improvement nevertheless. Things are looking brighter for Swedish foreign trade."
In the first six months of the year the port handled a total of 265,000 cargo units in ro-ro traffic, marking a decline of 7.3 per cent against the same period a year earlier.
"The fall is a direct result of a downturn in the flow of paper between Sweden and Finland," Mr Karestedt explained, reported the Baltic Transport Journal.
