Demolition, reconstruction of jetty in Chai Wan to last 18 months

VESSELS near the demolition and re-construction of a jetty in Chai Wan at the eastern end of Hong Kong Island are advised to proceed with caution and keep clear at a slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the area.

Work began August 27 and will continue for 18 months as part of the marine works at Oil Terminal, Chai Wan, said the Hong Kong Marine Department.

These works will be carried out within the area bounded by straight lines joining the following co-ordinates (WGS 84 Datum) from (A) to (D) and the adjacent shoreline: (A) 22'16.499'N / 114'14.545'E, (B) 22'16.532'N / 114' 14.591'E (C) 22'16.479'N / 114'14.636'E (D) 22'16.445'N / 114'14.590'E.

The works will be conducted by one derrick barge, with a tug providing assistance. The number of vessels engaged in the works will change from time to time to suit operational requirements.

A working area of 50 metres around the derrick barge will be established. Yellow marker buoys fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the positions of the anchors extending from the barge.

Silt curtains, extending from the sea surface to the seabed, will be established within works area. Yellow markers fitted with yellow flashing lights will be laid to mark the extent of the silt curtains.

Diving operations will also be carried out from time to time during the hours of work.

Works will be carried out from 0700 to 1900 hours daily except Sundays and Public Holidays. Vessels engaged in the works will stay in the works area outside the hours of work and will also display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.
