Pipavav hits big leagues as APM Terminals docks 9,971-TEU Maersk ship
APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port Ltd) has accommodated its largest containership in its history, with the berthing of the 9,971-TEU Maersk Saltoro owned by the terminal operator's parent company.
"A container vessel with an overall length of 299 metres was berthed at Pipavav Port by the port's marine team," the company said in a statement.
It said the berthing of the vessel was made possible due to the infrastructure capabilities the terminal has built up over the years to handle mega-vessels, reported Press Trust of India.
Last month, the port started roll-on/roll-off operations with the dispatch of the first lot of cars for export. The port enjoys access to the hinterlands in the northern and western regions via strong rail and road connections.
