Ford India re-ups, extends contract with NYK auto logistics to Chennai
NYK UNIT NYK Auto Logistics India (NALI) and Ford India have extended the scope of their contract to cover Chennai plant stockyard management and inland transportation from the plant to the ports of Chennai and Ennore.
Having worked with Ford India since 2011, NALI will now provide outbound logistics of finished vehicles for Ford in Chennai, a part of which will be loaded on NYK ships in Chennai port, extending the supply chain further.
NALI is also working with Ford on a proposal to use its car carrier trailers from Sanand Plant to Pipavav ro-ro terminal. The terminal at Pipavav is equipped with PDI facilities where vehicles can be processed for export aboard ro-ro ships.
The first NYK vessel, the 59,217-gross ton Grand Dahlia, called at Pipavav ro-ro terminal on August 26 to load a consignment of 1,380 Ford Figo Aspire vehicles and extended the outbound supply chain from Sanand plant to overseas dealers.
