Vladivostok first half box volume plummets 28pc to 174,600 TEU
CONTAINER traffic at the Russia's Commercial Port of Vladivostok (VMPT), a part of FESCO Transportation Group, was down 28 per cent in the first half year on year to 174,600 TEU.
It was said to be pulled down by the US and Europe's trade embargoes over civil war in the Ukraine, and a floundering Russian economy struggling with weak domestic demand.
First-half export-import liner volumes fell by 16.8 per cent year on year to 168,400 TEU, reported Port News online from Russia.
Intermodal transportation was down by 8.9 per cent to 107,000 TEU, and general cargo volumes decreased by 17.2 per cent to 1,055,000 tons.
Commercial Port of Vladivostok has 15 berths with a total length of three kilometres. In 2014 the terminal handled 500,000 TEU.
