Fire breaks out in cardboard packed FEU in USAC 13,500-TEUer in Hamburg

FIREFIGHTERS spent three and a half hours putting out fire aboard the UASC-owned 13,500-TEU Alula in the Port of Hamburg.

The fire, in which there were no injuries, started in one of the FEUs packed with cardboard, reported Singapore's Splash 24/7.

No one was injured in the incident and the owner is now assessing the damage to the Maltese-flagged vessel.

A team of 36 firefighters arrived on the scene at 0330 hrs. Thirty containers were discharged so firefighters could attack the blaze.

The burning FEU was moved ashore and emptied with a forklift truck. UASC was unavailable for comment when contacted by Splash.
