Svitzer branches out from Europe, Australia to focus on AMEA

SVITZER has announced that it has created new regional structures by dedicating business development resources in Singapore to shift its focus to expanding its business in Asia, the Middle East and Africa (AMEA).

The company's current business portfolio relies on its mature markets of Europe and Australia, where it aims to preserve and increase market positions and improve profitability.

A statement said that both AMEA and the Americas presently carry smaller weight in its portfolio, but have substantial growth opportunities given that the AMEA region covers a huge geographical area from Russia's Pacific coast to West Africa.

"We have therefore decided, from October 1, to create two focused regions covering this area: MEA, covering Middle East and Africa including the Indian subcontinent and Sri Lanka; and Asia, covering Bangladesh in the west to Japan in the east and Russia in the north to Indonesia in the south.

"Both regions will focus on strategic growth, and by having increased and dedicated management and business development resources in both these regions, we aim for improved and faster growth in both MEA and Asia," said chief commercial officer Kasper Friis Nilaus.

"Svitzer increases business development focus on the large and fast growing towage markets in Asia and Africa as well as the Middle East, where Svitzer is already strongly present. Our strategic objective is to accelerate growth outside Europe and Australia.

"The increased focus will bring us even closer to existing and new customers in Africa, Middle East and Asia and provide a platform for our safe, reliable and efficient towage solutions. We are looking forward to assisting port authorities and shipowners in reducing turnaround time and fuel consumption in relevant ports," he added.

The MEA region will be led by Torsten Holst Pedersen, who has led the company's AMEA region from the regional headquarters in Dubai for three years.

In Asia, the regional HQ will be based in Singapore, which will he headed up by Alan Bradley who was previously CCO for the company in Australia, where he won significant harbour and terminal towage contracts, most notably, from Gorgon, Wheatstone and Oil Search.

The group has 4,000 employees, a fleet of 400 vessels and operations all over the world, to provide towage and emergency response services for the shipping industry.
