Finnair unveils 12 routes in greater Europe, Arctic and Asia
EUROPE's Finnair has announced the opening of 12 new routes and increased frequencies next summer, including four fresh routes to Edinburgh, Billund, Pula and Svalbard, also ramping up its Asia connections.
From April 18 to October 27 the carrier will fly to the Scottish capital. "The Edinburgh flight will give excellent possibilities for our Asian customers to connect to Scotland on their trips to the UK, and it will connect Scotland to Finnair's extensive Asian network which covers 13 airports," said Finnair vice-president Petri Vuori.
Flights to Billund in Jutland, Denmark, will become a year-round destination from April 4, adding to its current five-times-weekly service to Copenhagen.
The frequency of its Croatia service is being increased with two weekly flights between Helsinki and Pula from June 20 to August 12. The airline also flies to Dubrovnik and Split, offering a total of 14 weekly flights to Croatia. The Split service will offer two extra weekly flights, as well.
It will become the first carrier to offer scheduled international services to Svalbard, the Norwegian archipelago in the Arctic Ocean. From June 1 to August 27 there will be three weekly flights from Helsinki to the northernmost airport in the world, Svalbard, located between Norway and the North Pole.
New scheduled flights will replace previously chartered flights to the Greek islands of Zakynthos, Skiathos, Santorini, Mytilene and Preveza. The same will apply to Rimini and Verona in Italy and to Varna in Bulgaria.
It will also boost the number of flights to the destinations of Malta, Tel Aviv in Israel and to Biarritz and Nice, France. Malta is a new destination started this summer and there has been "high demand" from Finland and Asia, so an extra weekly flight will commence in summer 2016.
