Ruslan flies 60-tonne steam heater after 450 kilometre road trip at night
RUSSIA's Ruslan International has moved a 60,000 kilogramme Steam Superheater from Austria to Saudi Arabia, demonstrating its capability in heavy air cargo operations.
The Linz to Dammam flight was arranged in partnership with Swiss forwarding giant Panalpina using one of Ruslan International's 17-strong fleet of AN124-100 aircraft.
This is the latest in a long line of lifts performed by Ruslan International in conjunction with Panalpina, reported London's SHD Logistics magazine, which deal with storage, handling and distribution.
The load consisted of steam heater, for use in industrial processing, as well as 4,800 kilogrammes of accessories.
One of the key requirements of the mission was to transport the large and heavy load a considerable distance - 450 kilometres over land before boarding a plane Linz.
Transporting this load by road required several special permits, due to its width of 620 centimetres, and was further complicated by the fact that the journey could only take place at night.
Also, barriers, fences and a gate had to be removed so that it could enter the airfield.
Ruslan International provided extensive technical advice on load preparation, which included a visit by one of its load planning experts to the production site where the cargo originated, ensuring that the load made its journey without serious problems.
Said Ruslan marketing chief Claire Simmonds: "This lift had a number of complexities, but through close collaboration with Panalpina, we were able to meet the challenge comfortably."
Said Panalpina charter chief Robert Boetzer: "We are delighted that this project went off without a hitch. Meticulous planning and excellent communication were the keys to success."
