Japan's Port of Nagoya suffers 12.2pc May cargo fall to 14.6 million tonnes
JAPAN's Port of Nagoya suffered a decrease in cargo volume in May due to sharp declines in both foreign and domestic trade, according to figures released by the Nagoya Port Authority.
Container throughput, on the other hand, rose 19.8 per cent to 14,082 TEU year on year, the port statistics.
But other cargo went in the opposite direction, after falling by 12.2 per cent in May from a year earlier to 14.6 million tonnes.
Of the 14.6 million tonnes handled, 9.57 million tonnes came from foreign trade, down 14.3 per cent year on year, and the remaining 5.02 million tonnes was domestic trade, down 7.8 per cent, reported IHS Maritime 360.
In May the port exported 3.853 million tonnes of cargo, down 9.9 per cent, and imported 5.716 million tonnes of cargo, down 17.1 per cent against the same month the previous year.
