2M adds fast-growing Prince Rupert call on TP-8 pendulum service
THE giant 2M Alliance - MSC and Maersk - have announced changes to its transpacific strings starting in September, involving the addition of a new call at Prince Rupert on the TP-8/New Orient pendulum service.
From September, this service will call at Tanjung Pelepas, Qingdao, Shanghai Busan, Prince Rupert, Long Beach, Vostochny (bunkering), Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Shenzhen-Chiwan, Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Yantian, Singapore and Tanjung Pelepas.
Maersk had included a Prince Rupert call on its TP-Alaska service in August, operated outside of the 2M arrangement.
The first call at Prince Rupert on this service is planned on August 27 with the 2,586-TEU Thomas Mann. Maersk will make four calls at Prince Rupert on this service before shifting the call to the TP-8/New Orient service inOctober.
Container traffic at Canadian northwest port of Prince Rupert has been increasing steadily since the port opened in November 2007.
In 2014, the port handled 618,000 TEU, for a growth of 14.7 per cent. It is currently served by three FE-USWC services operated by the CKYHE carriers.
Prince Rupert acts as a gateway for both Canada and the US Midwest through rail connections.
