MacGregor ro-ro access systems to equip 5 new Grimaldi car carriers
MacGREGOR, part of Cargotec, has won a contract from Chinese shipbuilder Yangfan to deliver ro-ro access equipment for five postpanamax 7,800-CEU pure car/truck carriers (PCTCs).
The vessels are being built for Italian operator Grimaldi Group, with options for seven more, as part of its fleet expansion and modernisation.
The 200-metre vessels will be among the world's biggest, having a quarter ramp, side ramp, internal ramps, bulkhead doors and four levels of liftable car decks.
The gross weight of the equipment is 2,400 tonnes per ship, a statement from the supplier said.
The ships are expected to enter into service in 2017 linking the Mediterranean with North America delivering new vehicles between Europe, the US and Canada.
Said sales chief Mattias Gunnarsson: "Following delivery, MacGregor will continue to support Grimaldi, working with the owner to deliver the best possible lifecycle costs."
