Cargolux ups capacity to Chennai, then to Muscat-Mumbai via Oman Air
CARGOLUX has added a second weekly flight to Chennai through its partnership with Oman Air that started in April, and plans to add flights between Muscat and Mumbai later this year.
The routing of the extra freighter service is understood to be Luxembourg-Muscat-Chennai, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
"Oman Air and Cargolux will now operate two full freighter flights from Chennai to Muscat. The new service will enable us to strengthen our presence within the Indian market by accessing the industrial belts of south India," said Oman Air's Mafoodh Al Harth.
"Our new services will generate increased cargo traffic that will not only attract important revenue streams, but will also demonstrate to the global market the outstanding, modern cargo infrastructure that Oman offers," he said.
The partnership expects to build on the success of the newly-launched services by expanding air freight services from Oman to destinations in China, Europe, Africa and the US, Cargolux said.
Cargolux announced earlier that the joint venture with Oman Air would enable it to jointly access new freighter destinations through "access to the belly capacity of Oman Air's fleet, and create new opportunities for freight transportation from Oman's modern port facilities".
The Luxembourg-based airline aims also to benefit from Oman Air's experience of flying to 11 destinations in India, as well as to East Africa. The Chennai route was the first full freighter service to have been launched from Oman.
Oman Air said the benefits of adding freighter capacity to its network and portfolio included the ability to carry project cargo, livestock, cargo-aircraft-only freight, odd-size cargo, vehicles and aircraft engines.
