Halifax first call on Asia-North America east coast Suez rotation
SHIPPERS will gain unique import and export opportunities with a new service to Halifax, the first direct loop between Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Yantian, Vietnam and Malaysia to Canada's east coast.
The rotation via Suez is Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Yantian, Vung Tau, Vietnam; Port Kelang and then to Halifax, New York, Norfolk and Savannah and back to Port Kelang, Vung Tau, Hong Kong, Shenzhen-Yantian, Ningbo and Busan.
CMA CGM, whose ships already call Halterm International Container Terminal, has added Halifax to its Columbus service between Asia and North America, with the first ship the 8,478-TEU CMA CGM Vivaldi to call this week.
The service offers unrivalled intermodal service to the major inland destinations, including Toronto and Montreal as well as service to Halifax from Malaysia (23 days) and Vietnam (26 days) and Toronto in 26-29 days
CMA CGM country manager Lionel Chatelet said the largest ship to call would be a 9,200-TEUer, also on the Columbus service.
Said Halterm CEO Ashley Dinning: "We now have the opportunity to deliver on these new, direct connections for the Canadian market. CMA CGM has recognised the potential of the deep water, high capacity vessel calls we can support at Halterm".
Under a new long term contract, the Columbus service now joins CMA CGM's St Laurent Service at Halterm. The latter serves Canada's transatlantic export markets.
