IAG Cargo and Finnair share networks in freighter sharing deal

IAG Cargo has joined Finnair Cargo to extend their networks with a block space agreement on freighter capacity operating between London Luton and Helsinki, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

Operated by an A300-600 cargo freighter, the deal joins the carriers' networks and will provide IAG Cargo customers with greater network reach.

This is the second IAG Cargo freighter deal. It comes a year after IAG it signed with Qatar Airways to access its freighter capacity operating between Hong Kong and London Stansted.

"We have once again expanded our network through an asset-light solution and provided our customers with access to an even greater range of destinations," said IAG Cargo CEO Steve Gunning.

"With Finnair's reach into Asia and our strength in the Americas, this deal will open up new markets while supporting the responsible management of capacity on our network, he said.

Said Finnair Cargo vice president Antti Kuusenmaki: "We are happy to announce the opening of our third hub to London. This partnership with IAG Cargo not only offers improved connections between Asia and the UK, but also new great connections between our Nordic home market, Northern America and Asia.

The freighter will fly twice a week and provide IAG Cargo with the ability to easily route cargo through Helsinki, to supplement Finnairs' seven and IAG Cargo's two daily narrow-body services between London Heathrow and Helsinki.
