Air China Cargo to link Edmonton with Shanghai for consumables
AIR China Cargo's new freight service operating on a Shanghai-Edmonton-Dallas-Edmonton-Shanghai routing, starting from September 3, using Boeing 777 freighters is being hailed by officials as a "game-changer" for western Canadian trade with Asia.
The flight will serve Edmonton six times per week, with three flights from Dallas and three from Shanghai. The route will also offer the only freighter service between Alberta and Texas, connecting two oil-producing regions, noted the Edmonton Journal.
"Market demand for direct cargo services between Asia and Canada has been growing and our brand new route will help build important trade links between the two," said Air China vice Patrick Yu.
Said Edmonton International Airport CEO Tom Ruth: "Air China Cargo's investment greatly expands the Edmonton metro region and Alberta's cargo network. Our energy, manufacturing, agriculture and other industries can now ship goods more efficiently to China and the Asia-Pacific region."
