Dutch logistics firm offers to dispose of 'worthless' cargo

ROTTERDAM's Van Scherpenzeel and Broekman Logistics has a way to dispose of abandoned or otherwise worthless cargo that spares those responsible of a costly trips to the incinerator.

"Our focus is on recovering as much material as possible. Even a container with spoiled fruit can still be used to make environmentally friendly biogas in a fermentation plant. There are countless examples," said the company statement.

"Our destruction process is always 100 per cent safe and confidential. The end result is completely unrecognisable in all cases, but still valuable. Recycled materials are distributed to several industries throughout Europe," it said.

"We will cover the entire logistic process and ensure confidential destruction of the goods while recovering as many new materials as possible," said the company's press statement.

"The collaboration between Broekman Logistics and Van Scherpenzeel ensures a completely closed chain. Goods do not end up back on the market sold through the back door," it said.

Broekman Logistics was granted the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) by customs, meaning that it only operates following strict regulations.

In addition, Broekman Logistics was approved by customs to offer a valuable solution for abandoned cargo.

Cargo is always transported directly from the terminal to Van Scherpenzeel's processing equipment, without stops along the way.

Van Scherpenzeel's grounds and facilities have extensive security and all staff go through a detailed screening process first. All activities are done following the strictest norms for confidential destruction (CA + NAID).

The recycling process has waste paper, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.

Established at the Port of Rotterdam over 55 years ago, Broekman Logistics has since grown to become a full-service logistics services provider employing about 800 people and with sites in the Netherlands, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Poland, India, China and Singapore.

Broekman specialises in forwarding and shipping, warehousing and distribution and breakbulk terminals. Broekman's services are characterised by a global reach with a personal touch (www.broekmanlogistics.com).

Van Scherpenzeel is a company which analyses waste streams and organises and executes, so that as much value as possible can be won from residual waste (www.vanscherpenzeel.com).
