Marseille Fos has its day in the sun with volumes up 10pc to 627,383 TEU
MARSEILLES FOS is off to a robust year in 2015, with overall cargo volumes rising six per cent and container volume at the seaport up 10 per cent.
First half results show box volume grow eight per cent to 627,383 TEU. Traffic at deep-sea terminals at Fos increased seven per cent to 506,826. Intra-Med volumes increased nine per cent to 120,557 TEU.
In the first half, the port received its largest ship to date, the 16,650-TEU MSC London working the Europe-Asia-Europe Dragon Express, reported Newark's Journal of Commerce.
In May, containerised daily rail service began connecting the port to the Clesud combined transport terminal in the city of Miramas.
In January the port announced a US$424 million plan to boost its traffic 11 per cent by 2018.
The port is also in the midst of building a new dock between the current berths at Fos to optimise the use of the deep-sea container terminals' ship-to-shore cranes.
