World's top 2 box ports in doldrums despite onset of peak season

THE world's top two container ports Singapore and Shanghai find themselves becalmed at the onset of the peak season from July to September.

In the first six months of this year, container throughput in Singapore shrunk by 3.1 per cent to 16 million TEU compared to the previous year, while Shanghai handled 18.03 million TEU, reported UK's Port Technology International.

Together Shanghai and Singapore handled 65.8 million TEU between them in 2013.
