American discount chain Dollar Tree to build big DC at Charleston
THE South Carolina Department of Commerce has announced that discount variety chain, Dollar Tree, is investing US$104.4 million to build a new 1.5 million square foot distribution centre in western South Carolina that is expected to bring benefits to the nearby port of Charleston as well as improve delivery to its 100-plus stores in the state.
The facility in Cowpens will be located in a corporate park close to the inland port in Greer, reported American Shipper.
The chain, which last week completed its merger with Family Dollar, creating a $19 billion retail giant with 13,600 stores in the United States and Canada, operates regional distribution centres in Chesapeake, Virginia, and Matthews, North Carolina.
