Find-a-forwarder website set up by ex-shipper based on his former needs
A NEW find-a-forwarder website, to discover, rate and review service has been made available by a San Francisco start-up called Fleet.
Before founding Fleet, Max Lock started the ice cream company Schoolboy Ice Cream, whose products retailed at Whole Foods and organic stores.
While importing packaging from manufacturers in China, Mr Lock first developed the idea to help businesses like his to better navigate the shipping market.
Forwarders can use the platform to directly interact with existing and potential customers.
It has been designed to allow small and midsize shippers find forwarders based on location, size, experience and customer ratings, reports American Shipper.
The platform, formerly known as Shipstr, also allows users to share their experiences, comments and ratings of freight forwarders.
The company's founder, Max Lock, said the intent is to create an environment similar to the online crowd-sourced business review website Yelp for users and providers of forwarding services.
"Running a small business that imported goods from overseas, I learned firsthand how difficult it can be to find reliable and economical service providers to move your goods from point A to point B," Mr Lock said.
Freight forwarders can use Fleet to increase visibility and cultivate their brands among harder-to-reach customer small and midsize shipper segments.
