Tobruk blocs Tripoli seizure of private Libyan jets stranded in Malta
LIBYA's Tobruk regime representatives have thwarted the seizure of two Bombardier Global 5000 executive private jets worth US$77.5 million, after Tripoli-based company, United Aviation Company SPA (UAC), claimed ownership.
Now the jets will remain parked at Malta International Airport until the dispute over ownership of the aircraft is decided by the courts.
As the battle for the control of Libya's assets abroad continues, legal representative Ali Hassan El Shanti of Libya's UAC filed two warrants against the Tobruk-based executive authority for air cargo and special flights (EACS) in June, reported Malta Today.
Libya is still coping with two rival government claimants vying for control after Libya Dawn, an umbrella of Islamist militias and armed groups from the western city of Misrata, seized Tripoli in 2014, forcing the elected government out of the capital to Tobruk.
