Two US$24 million cranes good to go at Flinders Adelaide box terminal: GAC
TWO US$24 million ship-to-shore cranes assembled by GAC at the Flinders Adelaide container terminal are now ready to secure the ships needed to keep South Australia's exports competitive in the world.
Weighing 950 tonnes each, the cranes stand 65 metres high and are capable of reaching heights of 105 metres with the boom raised. Their efficiency is expected to improve vessel turn-around times by up to 25 per cent.
The cranes were assembled at a special site adjacent to the terminal to avoid any disruption to terminal operations, enabling them to be constructed and rigorously tested ahead of the carefully planned 'mega-move' onto the wharf.
