First companies ready to sign up for leases at Trinidad Piarco AeroPark
AIR cargo company Aviation Business Limited is set to sign a lease for space at Trinidad's 160-acre Piarco AeroPark, reports the Trinidad and Tabago Guardian.
Piarco, a town in northern Trinidad, is the site of Piarco International Airport. It also includes the village of St. Helena.
This was confirmed by Emmanuel Baah, acting deputy general manager for Estate Planning and Business Development at the Airports Authority of Trinidad and Tabago.
Mr Baah told the T&T Guardian space is being leased out to investors seeking the advantage of having their facilities at the airport near cargo handling, warehousing, terminal activities, distribution and administration.
He said lands are being leased out to a variety of businesses looking to enhance the attractiveness of the Piarco International Airport as a hub in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Mr Baah said the AeroPark presents lucrative opportunities for companies, particularly in retail, air cargo, entertainment, hotels, cargo handling, logistics and warehousing, and restaurants.
He said while development of the facility take several years, some scheduled targets have already been surpassed.
"Companies will submit some of their proposals, and by the end of the fiscal year, we should already have leases signed," he said, adding that the Airports Authority has also completed negotiations with an automotive services company and another which is building a distributions and logistics centre on 14 acres of land.
"Right now we have RFPs [request for a proposal] advertis" said Mr Baah, who specified that there are five different packages available for a shopping mall, service company, indoor entertainment, outdoor recreation and international trade.
