Maersk to deploy 2,357-TEU Mia Schulte on its Far East-Alaska service
THE Hamburg-based Schulte Group is to receive the Mia Schulte, the fourth of twelve 2,357-TEU ships of the new SDARI 2400 design that were ordered over three phases from China's Zhejiang Yangfan Shipyard from October 2012 to May 2014 and are due for delivery by late 2016.
Equipped with three cranes and fitted with 500 reefer plugs, the Mia Schulte has been chartered by Maersk Line for assignment on the carrier's Far East-Alaska service.
Given these vessels have a deadweight of 30,350 tons on a 10.5 metre draft, they are ideally suited for shallow ports, especially those in the Bengal Bay area, hence they have been commercialised as 'Chittagongmax' units, reported Alphaliner.
