TIACA hails WCO's adoption of '7 + 1' to boost air cargo safety
THE International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) strongly supports the World Customs Organisation's (WCO) formal adoption of the "7 + 1" data set, as it represents an important update to its SAFE framework of standards to secure and facilitate global trade.
The "7 + 1" data set, which will be the requirement for risk data analysis, helps to standardise basic pre-loading advance cargo information (PLACI) safety processes.
The PLACI processes have been undertaken by the US, the EU and Canada after two bombs disguised as copy machine toner cartridges were discovered on two cargo aircraft.
According to TIACA, using advance data for civil aviation risk assessment provides an additional layer of security, reported Atlanta area Air Cargo World.
The 7 + 1 data elements include the number of pieces, total weight, general cargo description, shipper's name and address, and the consignee's name and address (7), plus the airway bill number (1).
