Cargotec's MacGregor wins major deck equipment order from South Korea
FINLAND's Cargotec unit MacGregor has signed a contract with Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering to supply a range of Hatlapa deck machinery for 10 ships that carry 172,600 cubic metres of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The LNG carriers will operate in the Yamal gas field on the Yamal Peninsula in the Russian Arctic.
"When operating in these challenging conditions, the highest quality equipment is essential," said MacGregor vice president Alexander N黵nberg.
MacGregor will deliver electrically-driven deck machinery, windlasses and mooring winches, all optimised for operations in very low temperatures. Delivery is planned to start in 2017 and continue into 2018.
"MacGregor was awarded the contract because it can deliver equipment that complies with the demanding technical requirements of operating in extremely cold conditions," said Mr N黵nberg.
"As part of this project, we have developed new technology suitable for use in extreme ambient temperatures as low as minus 52癈."
