Norfolk Southern railway bridge collapses an hour after train goes through
A NORFOLK SOUTHERN rail bridge in Huntington County, Indiana, 130 miles southwest of Chicago, collapsed because of flooding caused by heavy rains, reported American Shipper.
One witness told ABC 21/NBC 33 TV News that a Norfolk Southern train had just passed over that bridge less than an hour before the collapse.
Norfolk Southern said railway personnel were on site repairing the bridge and re-opening the mainline.
According to the TV News station, residents of the small town of Andrew, Indiana, said flood waters from the overflowing Little River reached the support walls of the bridge around 2am and eroded the surface until the bridge collapsed.
